Who We Support
Aligned Science Editing offers a range of services for graduate students, researchers, scientists, and academics across all disciplines. It was founded on my own experience as a researcher and academic. As I progressed through my own career, I realized that many of us feel alone and overwhelmed in the writing endeavour. After all, writing is personally intimidating — the page is an open reflection of our interests, our efforts and our abilities — so it’s natural for us to put up barriers. Unfortunately, these self-protecting barriers delay our progress. At Aligned Science Editing, we help you lower these barriers so you can heighten your impact.
We can help you develop and refine a scientific paper or grant proposal, structure a talk or presentation for your audience, or prepare for interviews and other professional communications. We specialize in developmental editing — working alongside you to clarify your ideas, sharpen your hypotheses and predictions, and align your science with the words you use to describe it. We also provide copy editing services focused on clarity, brevity, and accessibility, with dedicated support for non-native English speakers — all without the use of AI.

Aligned Science Editing is a registered consulting practice (operating as Graham J Thompson Consulting, Ontario Business Identification Number 1001582503) providing scientific communication, academic editing, and coaching services for graduate students, researchers, and academics across all fields. Our vision is to help our communities — in their scholarly pursuits and professional ambitions — be better equipped for lasting academic success. We engage in meaningful collaboration and the sharing of expertise in science communication, working with individuals, research teams, and academic institutions. We celebrate the diversity of voices within the scientific community and the inspiration that comes from seeing complex ideas communicated with clarity and confidence.
Graham J. Thompson, PhD
Graham Thompson is the Academic Coach at Aligned Science Editing. With more than 25 years of experience in research, teaching, and academic leadership across institutions in Canada, Australia, and Europe, he founded ASE to provide scientific editing and academic coaching to help researchers, graduate students, and scientists communicate their work with greater clarity and confidence.
Throughout his career, Graham has found his greatest strengths lie in coaching and mentoring. Whether developing a grant proposal, structuring a research paper, preparing a conference talk, or supporting a non-native speaker in finding their academic voice, he empowers those he works with to succeed in their scholarly goals.
Over his career he has directly supervised more than 50 undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees, many of whom have gone on to publish in leading journals, win prestigious scholarships, and build successful careers in science, medicine, and education.
Graham holds a BSc and MSc in Biology from the University of Guelph and a PhD in Genetics from La Trobe University, Australia. He rose to the rank of full Professor of Biology at Western University and now holds a professorship at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario.
Media & Community
His work has also attracted broad media attention, including features on CBC Radio, CTV News, and the Discovery Channel. Graham is also an athlete and active member of his community. He is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and an avid equestrian — and knows firsthand the value of a great coach.
